Moses Spoke Of Jesus!
There are 3 things of critical importance that the Lord has used to build my faith in Yeshua, His Son signs and wonders, the unexplainable love of gentile Christians and the scriptures. Of these 3, the most important is
His Word. Yeshua once challenged the chief rabbis of His day by telling them
"You search the Scriptures because you believe they give you eternal life.
But the Scriptures point to me! John 5:39
In this verse, Yeshua was talking about the scriptures of the OLD Covenant!
If a Jewish person is truly a sincere seeker of the truth, then their appetite for the words of Yeshua will correspond to their appetite for the words of Moses.
The real problem, as Jesus identified it in the passage above, is that the Jewish people are either ignorant or unbelieving of their OWN scriptures! That is one important reason why they did not recognize him as their own Messiah when He came to them first 2,000 years ago! As the prophet Hosea once observed so sadly
my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.Hosea 4:6
So what makes the Law of Moses so important to us today, living 3,400 years later!? This is a good and a fair question! One thing I have learned about God over the last 37 years is thisif you ask Him a good and a fair question without limiting His answer to the boundaries of your pre-conceived assumptions, He will answer you faithfully, scripturally and often dramatically!
Always remember these 2 important truths about the God of our fathers
Because He is a living God He is able to communicate His existence and His truth to any seeking soul who is sincere. Because He is a loving God His strong desire is that true seekers be given truthful, satisfying answers to their questions.
He is not offended by our doubt, He is offended by our apathy! God has proven this verse to be consistently true in my own personal search for Him
If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.John 7:17
The reason that Moses is such a critical figure in our history is that He is Gods appointed mediator for our people!
When the Israelites came to Mount Sinai to receive the 10 Commandments and the Law of God, they heard the actual voice of their God for themselves for the first time. It was a frightening and overwhelming experience! Their response was pivotal in the history of Gods relationship with His Jewish people
When the people heard the thunder and the loud blast of the horn, and when they saw the lightning and the smoke billowing from the mountain, they stood at a distance, trembling with fear. And they said to Moses, "You tell us what God says, and we will listen. But don't let God speak directly to us. If he does, we will die! (Exodus 20:18,19)
One might conclude that by distancing themselves from their God with such a fearful plea that God would be hurt or angered, but the Lord Himself was actually pleased with this appeal! In Deuteronomy 18:17, Moses tells the people how God felt about their request for a mediator
"And the LORD said to me: 'What they have spoken is good.
I have often heard Jewish people reject the claims of Christ by proudly proclaiming, I am Jewishwe dont need a middle-man!
Those who speak such words only reveal their ignorance of their own scriptures!
We have always needed a middle-man - that is why the Lord was so pleased to hear and honor our own desire that He appoint one for us!
Moses became the first in a long series of mediators.
In the centuries following Moses, all those serving in their role as High Priest of our nation became mediators, as they entered the Holy of Holies once a year on Yom Kippur to offer the atoning blood of a perfect lamb on behalf of the entire nation. Even that lamb itself functioned as a mediator of sorts, by giving its blood for the remission (forgiveness) of sins for those who trusted in it. Whenever our people have submitted to a mediator in their relationship with their God, they have prospered! When they proudly or even ignorantly tried to approach God without a mediator, the results have been disastrous!
The point of everything I have said thus far is just this
the beginning of true spiritual life and healing for every Jewish person is to learn to trust in the words of Moses who acted as a mediator between an unholy nation and a holy God!
Some of Yeshuas strongest warnings to the Rabbis and scholars of His day were on this point
it is not I who will accuse you of this before the Father. Moses will accuse you!
Yes, Moses, on whom you set your hopes. But if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me because he wrote about me. And since you don't believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?" John. 5:45-47
The statement above is chilling, but its inverse is thrilling to any true son or daughter of Abraham who longs to know the God of our fathers. Allow me to rewrite the passage aboveI pray it will be a beacon of guidance and encouragement to you.
it is not I who will commend you before the Father, but Moses will praise you! Yes, Moses upon whom you set your hopes. For since you have chosen to believe Moses, you will be enabled to believe me, because he wrote of me!
My Jewish friend, would you like to have the praise of Moses himself to commend you before the Father in the Day of Judgement?!
If you would, then read the article I call, The Best Jewish Idea Ever!
There we will look at Moses greatest prophecy in which he points forward through the centuries to identify the one who is destined to become our greatest mediator of all!
Believe the words of Moses and God Himself will praise you on the day of His Judgement!
May God confirm His Truth to you with His Shalom
I am His scribe and your friend,
Asher
