Waiting For The Train!
Last month, as Becky and I returned from our vacation, we waited a long while in the station in Albany, New York. I observed 4 things I would like to share with you about people who are waiting for the train
1.They are all eager to go!
Those folks who are going ON vacation cant wait to get there. The ones coming back are tired and eager to see family and friends again. Whether we perceive heaven as the ultimate vacation or as a happy re-union with family and friends, we should ALL be EAGER to get there! Lets not be drawn by the tawdry attractions available in the station! Gods Word tells us, If you love the world more than you love me, you are not worthy of me!
2.They had lots of bags all packed!
We all need to pack our bags up with as many good works done for Jesus as we can, so that when we see Him we wont need to be ashamed! The bible tells us that we were born again unto good works and also, Let not your hands be slack for your work will be rewarded.
Come on, saints, lets pack up a few more bags!
3.They clutched their ticket firmly in their hand!
We had one scary moment when the conductor asked for our ticket and I could not quickly find it! Eventually we did, but I realized that much more than my DVD player, MP3, or any of my other important carry-ons, my TICKET was my most valuable possession!!
So is our FAITH! Jesus said, When the Son of Man returns, will He find FAITH upon the earth? All passengers who are heaven-bound must hold fast to their profession of faith.
4.They were looking and listening!
Many of our fellow travelers were peering intently in the direction of their long-awaited train. Some even watched the color of the signal posts far down the track, knowing that those signals will indicate that the train is near even before it comes into sight!
Others simply waited with attentive ears for the announcement for the voice of the station-master, knowing that he would be faithful to alert them if they were faithful to listen. We are not called to a passive kind of waiting, but a spiritually active one
Jesus said, Watch and wait, for you know not the hour or the day!
My dear Christian mother-in-Law, Mary, used to sing a little West Virginia song that went like this
Theres a little black train a-comin, Get all your business right Put your house in order, Cause that train may be comin tonight!
Dear saints, the signal posts are turning colors as we watch! They all point to the same conclusion: The train is coming soon! Are you ready? Are you eager, packed, and clutching tightly to your ticket?
Keep looking and listening, for your redemption draweth nigh!
